Ms. Karinna Moskalenko was elected to the Commission in April 2003. She is the founder and first Director (until 2003) of the International Protection Centre in Moscow, an ICJ affiliate organisation. Ms. Moskalenko has won a relevant number of cases brought before the UN Human Rights Committee. She also won the first ever cases against Russia at both the European Court and the Human Rights Committee. She is a member of the Experts Council of the Russian Federation's Ombudsman Office and a member of the Moscow Helsinki Group. She is also a member of the Moscow City Bar Association and the Russian Lawyers' Committee in Defence of Human Rights. Ms. Moskalenko studied law at Leningrad State University and specialised in Human Rights at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
